Residential Fire Sprinkler System Installation FAQs
If you are new to residential fire sprinkler systems, you probably have many more questions than answers. Here are some of the most common questions that we hear from our customers:
The safe bet is 3 months- unlike most trades with over-the-counter permits, fire system permits must first pass plan review with the local fire marshal. This process could take 6 weeks or longer. Since our designers usually take 1-2 weeks to design a system, and system install and inspection could take 3 weeks or more, we recommend starting the process 3 months before you are planning on having your final framing inspection.
No. This is a widely held misconception. Sprinklers in homes, hotels, schools and office buildings are very simple mechanical devices that only discharge if the temperature element limit is reached.
Cost can vary depending on factors such as location, water availability, and whether your project is brand new or a retrofit. With increasing building material prices, we stress the importance of efficiency from start to finish to keep our prices low, but some factors are out of our control. For a basic system in King and Pierce Counties we can usually keep the price under $4/sq ft, but depending on the specifics of your project, it could be more.
